Renovating your home

R.C. Carpentry specialises in updating and refurbishing homes to give a more contemporary look, but one that is sympathetic to and compliments their original features.

You may want to add space or change the use of your spaces with a basement conversiongarage conversionloft conversion or extension. You may just require some knocking down of walls if you wish to do some internal remodelling, or a simple freshen up and modernisation of your home. We can project manage all of this.

Our team will take care of all the plumbing and electrical works required. We can also help with eco-renovations to improve the energy efficiency of your home, making it more economical and comfortable. Once all the structural works are completed, we then take care of all the finishing touches including plastering, decorating, flooring and woodwork. Russ will then use his carpentry expertise to make your new space a stunning home. All of this will be finished to a very high standard, just how you want it.

“Russell has carried out a wide range of carpentry jobs for us – from kitchen units and worktops to bespoke storage for our children’s shoes and coats. In our view, he is an excellent carpenter. Not only do you get a first rate finish, he is someone that comes up with clever ideas and solutions. He is meticulous and takes a real pride in his work. He is also a polite and friendly person to have working in the house.”

” Russell is a talented tradesman who’s precise, quick, clean and always good to work with – he also has a knowledgeable understanding of construction in general, so is able to see potential issues before they arise and advise accordingly. I’ve worked with Russell on various projects and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him. Any more information, feel free to contact me through Russell.”

“Russell project-managed the refurbishment and reconfiguration of our bungalow. The new layout involved relocation of bathroom and kitchen, with new structural beams, re-plastering, plumbing and electrical work including moving of the electricity meter supply. He also fitted the new kitchen, bathroom and internal doors.
Work was all completed to a high standard within the time outlined in the plan of works. He kept us informed all the way through of costs associated with the extra work we requested as the project progressed. It was a pleasure to work with Russell and his team.”

“We recently had a kitchen refurb done by Russ and we can’t recommend him highly enough. The refurb included demolishing some internal walls, new plumbing, plastering, floor tiling, electrics and the fitting of the kitchen. Russ kept us updated throughout, was punctual, kind and considerate, tiding up at the end of the day so that we could move around the house. The cost was great and the finish outstanding. Its great to see someone taking pride in their work. It was a pleasure to have Russ work on our kitchen and we will definitely be using him again in the future.”

Controlling costs

When renovating an older property it is likely that you will come across  something unexpected that could add to the cost of the work. Some builders add a generous margin to their quote to cover this happening. If the job runs smoothly, however, this means you can end up paying more than you needed to.

Other builders provide a low initial estimate, but present you with a much higher final bill at the end. The cost of additional work along the way can soon add up. They aren’t overcharging you, but it can come as a nasty shock if you have not been expecting the additional cost or have a very tight budget.

If we are renovating or refurbishing your property, we will inform you as soon as something that could add to your costs comes up. Then, we will talk through your options with you. If there are unavoidable additional costs and you need to stick to a strict budget, we will suggest ways to amend the original spec to keep you within your overall budget.

Loft Conversions

If you need extra space and are thinking about having a loft conversion then please talk to us at an early stage. If carried out well, loft conversions can provide a much needed additional room and add extra value to your home. But, get the design wrong, and they can actually detract from your home’s appeal.

Common mistakes are to focus on adding more space without considering how the design will fit in with the rest of the house, or siting a staircase in the wrong place. We can also advice on what is involved in a loft conversion and and how to get the planning and building regulation permissions you need.

Any advice we give is entirely free and without further obligation.
